Had been trying to publish my first blog before the end of 2010 but was unsuccessful doing it since I was pre occupied by the Holiday rush ...so here I am with my commitment to post my first ever blog article.
I choosed to feature Elmer's tracker knife here as my first topic because I find it very interesting to write about the qualities of a blade that being liked by somebody like Elmer who passionately admires tracker knives. Interesting enough is the learning that each one of us has his own desire for a specific thing that should be satisfied. We do not stop unless we acquire or possess that thing or quality we desire. This holds true for my client who became my instant friend.
The picture above is his first tracker delivered to him at La Carlota City before the Christmas holidays. Elmer is a tracker knife fan, in our exchanges of text messages, I learned that the movie The Hunted.A movie portrayed by Benecio del Toro and Tommy Lee Jones intensified his interest for the tracker knife . To relate with Elmer, I did watch the movie and I agreed with him. The tracker knife is very useful for survival . This I must say the reason of knive collectors to include it in their priceless collections and maybe ,the reason that it has been one of the most ordered knife aside from the kris daggers that we make.
I met Elmer from our sulit.com page http://kombatweapons.sulit.com.ph/ (it is an Online Clasified Ads where he showed interest to buy our tracker knife. His first tracker knife was delivered to him first week of December. He liked it somehow but was not satisfied with it, because he still wanted something. Again, he had to order one, this time with his own design, he sent us a sketch of his tracker design (picture shown below). We did the modification except one, when we delivered to him second week of December. Elmer, again for the third time ordered another tracker, emphasizing what he wanted which we failed last time. 1/4 inch blade thickness. I felt sad for Elmer then. Imagine, he had to order twice before he can get the specific thickness that he wanted. I even asked him to return it to us since I know I can still dispose that knife, but he refused to. I admired Elmer for his kindness ,very warm and respectful personality. I know he had been disappointed with his second knife but still he did not show negative feelings. He continued to deal with us and ordered again for a new one. My apologies were conveyed to him, I am not a blademaker, I am just a third party which is responsible of ordering my clients specs to my blademaker.. It was explained to me that there are certain thickness that we usually do,our long blades and short ones are usually within that thickness,so if there are desired thickness other than the usual ,they need to be orderdered separately and be cut in that specific size.
I was a bit sad coz I know I failed to deliver the knife that he wanted. I offered to give him free shipping on the third knife. But then again, I was relieved when Elmer sent me pictures of his second tracker knife, which thickness is only 1/8 inch ,half less of his desired thickness. See below, the "destruct test",which he called in the process that he tested his 1/8 inch tracker knife. He said,as shown the pictures that the blade was not damaged whatsoever when heavily used in hardwoods and coins. Relieved and confident that my knife delivered what is expected from it.a functional tool for jungle survival .
After the Holidays, MM was able to forged another tracker knife, this time ;the specific thickness Elmer had requested. We shipped it by LBC to La Carlota City on January 11,2011. Much to my surprise, Elmer liked it so much. It's 1/4 inch thickness ,kamagong handle and leather sheath. Yey!
Elmer's Tracker Specs:
Blade : 5160 carbon steel
grip : kamagong
sheath : leather
